After time spent as a U.S. Army officer, Jerry was a law clerk first to Judge Sylvia Bacon on the District of Columbia Superior Court and then to U.S. District Judge Albert W. Coffrin in Vermont. Thereafter, he was a federal prosecutor in Vermont for 8½ years. During that time, he tried dozens of federal criminal cases before Vermont jurors. He left office in 1981 as the U.S. Attorney for Vermont.
Since 1981, Jerry has been in private practice in Burlington, specializing in representing clients in personal injury and wrongful death cases. He is a past president and current board member of the Vermont Association for Justice, a member of the board of the American Association for Justice, Chairman of the Vermont Supreme Court Evidence Rules Committee, a member of the U.S. District Court Advisory Committee, and a member of the board of the National College of Advocacy. He has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America since 1991 and is listed in New England Super Lawyers. He is a Board Certified Civil Trial Specialist and is the State Coordinator for Public Justice. He has been selected as a member of the International Society of Barristers and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has held the top rating in the legal rating service Martindale Hubbell since 1983.
A founding partner of O’Neill Kellner & Green, Jerry frequently teaches continuing legal education courses to attorneys throughout the country in trial techniques, personal injury and wrongful death. He is Chair of the Burlington Police Commission and a member of the board of COTS, the Committee on Temporary Shelter. He lives in Burlington with his wife, Giuliana. He is a horseman, photographer, scuba diver and world traveler.
